The case of a Sussex teacher facing a child abduction charge has been sent to crown court.

Jeremy Forrest, a teacher at Bishop Bell school in Eastbourne, appeared before Brighton magistrates via videolink from HMP Lewes.

The 30-year-old was arrested in France on 28 September.

A lawyer for Mr Forrest, who is from Chislehurst Road, Petts Wood, south-east London, did not apply for bail and there was no indication of a plea.

The teacher was arrested by police in Bordeaux in September after a European arrest warrant was issued.

He was extradited to the UK and then charged with child abduction by Sussex Police on 10 October.

Mr Forrest is due to appear before Lewes Crown Court on 11 January.
