Security guard attacked during Eastbourne cash raid

A security van driver was attacked with a baseball bat and a knife during a robbery in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

Sussex Police said two men stole a cash box containing £4,000 as a guard collected it from Hawthorn Road industrial estate on Tuesday.

They chased him into a store, hit him with a bat and tried to stab him with a blade during the incident.

The 58-year old security guard was treated at Eastbourne District General Hospital for cuts and bruises.

Both suspects were said to be white. One was aged about 30, 6ft 2in tall and had short dark hair. The other was described as being 5ft 2in, with a stocky and muscular build.

Sussex Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact officers.
