Brighton Speed Trials The Brighton Speed Trials are held every year on the beachfront in Madeira Drive

A woman has died and a man is in a serious condition following a collision at a speed trials event in Sussex.

The pair were racing in a motorbike and sidecar when it crashed during the Brighton Speed Trials on the track in Madeira Drive on Saturday.

The 64-year-old male rider was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital. His pillion passenger, who died, was a 38-year-old woman, police said.

No other vehicles were involved.

The collision happened at 18:15 BST at the Dukes Mound end of Madeira Drive.
