Sussex state-funded bilingual primary school approved
Plans for a state-funded bilingual primary school in Brighton have been approved.
The school will teach the national curriculum in both Spanish and English.
According to Hove and Portslade MP Mike Weatherley, the Department for Education (DfE) has entered into a funding agreement with the Bilingual Primary School Project Trust.
It will open in September and initially be based at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy.
Mr Weatherley said he received a letter from the Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove, telling him of the news.
He said: "Free schools are a brilliant opportunity for communities up and down the country and from September this will become a reality for a number of children in Brighton and Hove.
"I look forward to learning some Spanish when I visit the new bilingual school."
The school will initially take reception and Year One pupils.
