Man attacked by teenage gang in Eastbourne dies

A man attacked by a group of teenagers outside a grocers in Eastbourne has died, Sussex Police have said.

The 46-year-old local man was kicked and punched in The Hydneye on Thursday night and taken to hospital in the town, but never regained consciousness.

Det Insp Wendy Burton said it was "an absolute tragedy" and heartfelt condolences went to his family.

A local boy, 13, arrested earlier on Friday is now being held on suspicion of murder, along with a man aged 19.

Det Insp Burton said: "We are doing all we can to learn about what happened that night, the circumstances that led to this attack and now his untimely death.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area last night and who may have any information, however small, to come forward."
