A 52-year-old man is being treated for a serious head injury after he was assaulted in a street in East Sussex.

He was attacked near the News and Wine shop in Queens Road, Hastings, just before 22:00 BST on Saturday.

Police said he was taken to the Conquest Hospital, but his injuries were not life threatening.

Officers have appealed for customers who were in the shop at the time to contact them with any details which could help with their inquiries.

They would also like to speak to a man and a woman in a maroon car who stopped briefly at the scene just after the incident.

They believe the victim may have been attacked by a man described as white, who was aged in his late teens to early 20s, and was about 6ft tall, with short brown hair.

He was wearing blue jeans and a white polo shirt, and is thought to have been with two other men.
