Sussex golf club at risk of closure following thefts

A small golf club maintained by its members could close after all its course machinery was stolen in two nighttime raids.

Horton Golf Club, in Henfield, West Sussex, has had a tractor, two sit-on mowers and other equipment taken.

According to its chairman Martin Tooth, the club has been completely built-up and maintained by its 80 members.

Sussex Police have appealed for anyone with information about the burglaries to contact them.

The tractor was taken two weeks ago and on Sunday night thieves stole the rest of the club's equipment, which was stored in a shed.

Mr Tooth said: "With very limited funds, the loss of so much equipment... we face the fact that the club could be forced to close.

"So if anyone can help us with information about the theft, or details of any equipment you may have been offered, then we will be very grateful."

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Police were told of a burglary at Horton golf club, Shoreham Road, Small Dole, near Henfield, in which lawn mowers and other items had been taken from a garage overnight.

"The matter is being investigated."
