A 14-year-old boy has been charged after a Sussex teenager died in hospital from head injuries.

Connor Saunders, 19, of Downsway, Woodingdean, was injured in West Street, Rottingdean, on Saturday night and died later.

A 14-year-old Brighton boy, who cannot be named because of his age, was charged with manslaughter.

Two other boys, aged 13 and 14, who were arrested on suspicion of murder have been released on bail.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said on Tuesday: "The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised Sussex Police to charge a 14-year-old boy from Brighton, who cannot be named due to his age, with manslaughter.

"He remains in custody and is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court tomorrow."

Mr Saunders played for Peacehaven and Telscombe Football Club.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Monday showed he died from injuries consistent with trauma to the head.
