Three boys - two aged 14 and one aged 13 - are being held on suspicion of murder after a teenager died from head injuries in Sussex.

Connor Saunders, 19, from, Downsway, Woodingdean, in Brighton was attacked on Saturday night in West Street, Rottingdean.

The three boys had been arrested on suspicion of assault - before Mr Saunders died on Sunday.

Sussex Police said Mr Saunders was punched after two groups clashed.

Det Ch Insp Nick May said: "We are still working to establish the full circumstances of the incident. At the moment we believe that an altercation has taken place between two groups in West Street.

"Members of each group are known to each other and during the incident the 19-year-old victim has been punched to the head, causing him to fall to the floor."

Mr Saunders played for Peacehaven Football Club where his father is the first team manager.

A spokesman for the club said: "Connor was a brilliant guy, was never any trouble to anyone, he was brought up the correct way, and we're totally devastated. Our thoughts are with his family."
