Hastings skate park opens in biker's memory

A revamped skate park dedicated to the memory of a BMX biker who died in a road accident in 2002 has reopened in East Sussex.

The opening of the Hastings skate park coincided with this year's Boyley Jam, which is held each year to honour the memory Richard Ball, known as Boyley.

Skaters and riders were competing and performing at the opening.

Hastings Borough Council said users of the facility helped to design the White Rock Skate park and its layout.

The seafront skate park replaced an existing facility in White Rock Gardens which Mr Ball helped to design.

The Boyley Trust Fund, set up after his death at the age of 24, donated £15,000 towards the cost.

It has also organised numerous fundraising events, including the annual Boyley Jam.

The new park cost £165,000, with £100,000 coming from Hastings Borough Council and £50,000 from the government's Play Pathfinder scheme.
