Bogus window cleaners take jewellery in Surrey

An 81-year-old woman in Surrey had jewellery stolen after two men pretended to be window cleaners and forced their way into her home.

The victim answered the door to a man on Friday at about 15:40 BST who offered to clean her windows.

One man distracted her, while another ran upstairs, took a jewellery box and they then both fled from the house in Winckworth Road, Banstead.

Surrey Police are urging other people in the area to be vigilant.

Det Con Lewis Flanagan, from Surrey Police, said: "This was an appalling incident where an elderly lady was targeted by these shameful suspects who conned their way into her home."
