Mother and baby in hospital after Woking handbag robbery

A robber knocked a woman's baby out of its buggy while stealing her handbag as she crossed a bridge.

The mother - who was knocked to the ground - and baby have both been taken to hospital after the robbery in the Goldsworth Park area of Woking.

The woman was crossing the Basingstoke Canal bridge towards Waitrose when the man struck her on the head at about 14:20 BST, Surrey Police said.

The attacker had dark hair and wore casual clothing, officers said.

Police have asked for witnesses to come forward.
