A man in his 80s has died at a doctors' surgery after reports a gun was fired inside.

Surrey Police said officers were called to the surgery in Station Road, Frimley, just before 11:00 BST after reports that a "firearm had been discharged" inside the building.

The body of a man, believed to be in his 80s, was discovered at the scene.

Police said there is no indication of any third party involvement or wider risk to the community.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

NHS England said it was supporting staff at the surgery.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died," the spokeswoman said.

"Surrey Police are carrying out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death."

She added that the surgery would be open to patients as normal on Tuesday.

The surgery, which has been in existence for more than 70 years, is now part of the Surrey Heath Clinical Commissioning Group.
