Burglars target flood-damaged homes across Surrey

Burglars have been targeting flood-damaged homes in Surrey, with police stopping thousands of people suspected of being involved.

More than 2,000 vehicles have been stopped through use of automatic number plate recognition, say Surrey Police.

The force hailed it as a success with "only 28 flood-related crimes" being reported.

Ch Supt Matt Twist said the increased use of stop and search had been "frustrating" for residents.

But he added that the occupants of 44% of the cars stopped were known to police.
