A firm has been selected to build a new £10m leisure centre in the Preston area of Tadworth in Surrey.

The building will also serve as a community and youth centre, Reigate and Banstead Borough Council said.

Pellikaan Construction Ltd, which also built the £9m Horley leisure centre, has constructed more than 900 leisure centres in Europe.

Work is expected to start this spring and be completed in autumn 2015.

A council spokesman said the £10.26m contract includes a new access road, improvements to Merland Rise Recreation Ground and the demolition of the old community centre.

Meanwhile, work started on a £4m refurbishment of the Herons Leisure Centre in Haslemere on Monday.

The first phase of improvements focuses on areas including the gym, squash courts, health suite and cafe.
