Masked men threaten Caterham store staff with hammers

Croydon Road in Caterham Police described the raid in Croydon Road, Caterham, as "terrifying" for staff

Armed robbers threatened staff at a supermarket with hammers before stealing the contents of the store's safe.

The three masked men raided the Co-operative in Croydon Road, Caterham, Surrey, at about 06:30 GMT.

Police said they forced employees to open the safe. It is not yet known how much money was taken.

No-one was hurt but the raid was "terrifying" for the members of staff, according to Det Sgt Simon Gray.

He said officers were carrying out house-to-house inquires as part of their investigation and appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.
