Surrey motorists warned of M3 motorway slip road scam

Motorists are being advised to be wary of deception thefts on motorway slip roads following incidents in Surrey.

On Sunday, a lone man was seen trying to flag down vehicles at junction four of the London-bound M3, which has been linked to similar cases last month.

On 22 January, a man was stopping cars on the entry slip roads at junctions three and four claiming he had run out of petrol and needed cash to buy some.

Motorists have been urged not to stop, but to call police when it is safe.

Det Sgt Chris Greatorex of Surrey Police said: "This is a scam which plays on the vulnerability of lone drivers and is an activity which has been seen nationally."
