Royal Holloway student attack: Extra police patrols

The armed men forced their way into the student house in Egham

Police are carrying out extra street patrols and reviewing CCTV footage after a student was hit with a gun during a burglary in Surrey.

The Royal Holloway University student, who is aged in his 20s, received a head injury in the raid at a house in Egham in the early hours of 27 January.

Surrey Police said the burglary was an isolated incident but they were taking it very seriously.

Officers do not believe it is linked to recent street robberies in the area.

Knife and handgun

A spokesman for the force said: "Officers are looking through CCTV, have carried out a forensic examination of the household and neighbourhood teams are carrying out additional patrols.

"This is an isolated incident. Local teams are taking it extremely seriously and working with the university to carry out extra patrols in the area."

Three men armed with a knife and a handgun forced their way into the house in Nightingale Shott, shared by six male students.

They threatened the victim, who was alone in the property, before attacking him and stealing items including a laptop, jewellery and a passport.

As they escaped they used the gun to threaten other students who were returning to the house, telling them to get on the ground in the street with their hands behind their heads.

The injured student was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Surrey Police have appealed for anyone with information about the raid to contact officers.
