Ewhurst residents without landlines after cable theft

Residents of a village in Surrey are without broadband and landline services after three underground copper cables were stolen by thieves.

At least 250 people, in the Holmebury Road area of Ewhurst, have reported faults to BT since Wednesday's theft.

A BT spokeswoman said engineers were on the site working "round the clock" to restore services, but they were being hampered by the heavy snowfall.

She apologised and said services should be back by the beginning of next week.

She added some customers would get their broadband and landline connections sooner, describing it as "a domino effect" as the cable went in.

"We will do all we can to restore services by 22 January," the spokeswoman said.
