IPCC investigates Guildford bypass police 999 death
An independent investigation has begun into the death of a man who was hit by a police car on the A31 in Surrey.
Joshua Brown, 21, from Nottinghamshire, was struck on the dual carriageway at the Hog's Back, near Guildford, at about 03:35 GMT on Saturday.
The police car was on an emergency call at the time of the accident.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission promised the family of the trainee soldier, based at Bordon, Hampshire, a "rigorous" investigation.
Mr Brown died at the scene.
The IPCC said it was investigating whether the police response was appropriate for the emergency call and road and weather conditions.
In a statement the IPCC said: "I would like to assure them [the family] this will be a thorough and rigorous investigation to establish all of the circumstances surrounding Joshua's death."
