Two burglaries in the Guildford area in which three men entered the victims' homes and assaulted them may be linked, Surrey Police believe.

In the first, in Ash, a man in his 60s was pinned down and punched after he answered the door to three men who forced their way into the house.

In the second burglary, in Stoughton, a woman in her 40s was restrained by three men who entered the house.

Officers are investigating whether the two incidents, in two days, are linked.

Cash taken

Police said the three men fled the house empty handed after the burglary in Ash on Wednesday at about 19:00 GMT, when the victim's wife fought them off.

In the second incident, at 20:00 GMT on Thursday, the men took a small amount of cash before leaving the house.

In both incidents the three men were dressed in black and wearing balaclavas.

Det Insp Mark Parry said: "The location in Ash is a quiet neighbourhood. I urge anyone in the area to try and remember if they saw any vehicles which appeared out of place parked nearby either on the day of the incident or the days leading up to it."
