Stanwell Londis supermarket ram raid attempt

Ram raiders have attempted to smash their way into a supermarket in Surrey.

Police said the gang attacked the Londis store in Stanwell High Street in the early hours of Monday.

They drove a Land Rover into the front of the shop, damaging the building, but were unable to get in. They then poured petrol over the vehicle but failed to set it alight

The 4x4 was left at the scene and they escaped at high speed in two other vehicles.

A silver Volkswagen van was later found abandoned in Milton Gardens but a silver BMW X5 also in the convoy has not been located.

'Great risks'

Det Con Chris Ewan said: "Fortunately no-one was injured and the suspects made off empty handed, but this was clearly a targeted and planned offence.

"The attempted raid took place in a busy residential area and the suspects were clearly prepared to take great risks to get into the store."

The gang was described as a group of four or five men wearing dark clothing and with their faces covered.

Detectives have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
