Staines theft linked to Asian gold raids in Surrey

A burglary in Staines is the latest to be linked to a series of thefts of gold and other jewellery from Asian households in Surrey.

Police said cash and a number of high value items of jewellery, including gold bangles and a necklace, were stolen from the house in Gresham Road.

Det Con Dion O'Shea said the jewellery burglaries were a top priority for detectives and neighbourhood officers.

High visibility patrols have been put in place in Stanwell and Staines.

The "opportunistic" Gresham Road burglary, on 26 April, followed a series of meetings with members of the local community to raise awareness.

Surrey Police said the current high price of precious metals had made Asian jewellery a target for burglars, and owners were being encouraged to be extra careful with their family heirlooms.
