Man arrested over series of Asian gold burglaries

A man has been arrested over a series of burglaries which have targeted gold in Asian households in Surrey.

The 22-year-old from Maidenhead, Berkshire, is being held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary.

The arrest follows a series of police raids in the Stanwell, Ashford and Shepperton areas of Surrey.

Surrey Police said the raids were part of their investigation into burglaries where gold and other valuable jewellery had been stolen from Asian households.

Insp Derrick Laing said: "I hope this positive activity demonstrates to Stanwell residents that police in Spelthorne are determined to do everything possible to track down those responsible for the recent Asian gold burglary series.

"We are continuing to follow up a number of lines of enquiry but we also need the public to support our efforts and to act as our eyes and ears in the community.

"We recognise the value of creating and maintaining strong links with the community and local officers have been working closely with the Asian community to take positive action and raise awareness of the offences."
