Chemicals described as "very toxic" have gone missing in Surrey.

Police started an investigation after three packages went missing from Enthone, a company based in Sheerwater.

Two of the packages contain gold potassium cyanide, which produces the deadly gas hydrogen cyanide if it comes into contact with water or acid.

Surrey Police have have advised anyone who believes they have come into contact with the packages to seek urgent medical treatment.

The packages went missing from Enthone's site in Forsyth Road, some time between 12:00 GMT on 24 January and 07:00 the following day.

'Do not touch'

The company, which supplies chemicals to the metal-plating industry, had prepared the packages to be sent to different firms across the UK, but they never reached their destinations.

The matter was reported to police and the fire service on Monday.

Det Insp Andy Haslam said: "We are urging people not to touch, inhale or swallow any of these chemicals.

"If anyone believes they have already done so, I would urge them to seek urgent medical care.

"We are carrying out extensive inquiries to try and trace these chemicals and Enthone has given us its full support in our investigation.

"I would urge anyone with any information about how these chemicals went missing or their whereabouts to get in touch as a matter of urgency."

The packages are described as 1ft x 1ft x 1ft (0.3m x 0.3m x 0.3m) in size.
