Wife accused of husband's murder at Effingham home

A 67-year-old woman has appeared in court charged with murdering her husband at the family home in Surrey.

Tony Wakeford, 75, died from a single stab wound to the heart, a post-mortem examination revealed.

Patricia Wakeford spoke only to confirm her name and address during the hearing at Guildford Magistrates' Court.

The emergency services had been called to the scene in Norwood Road, Effingham, in the early hours of Saturday.

Mrs Wakeford was remanded in custody and will next appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday.
