A Church of England canon has been arrested on suspicion of fraud.

Canon Ian Finn, 55, from Haverhill, was arrested on Tuesday by Suffolk Police.

The Church of England issued a statement saying Canon Finn had been suspended pending the outcome of a police investigation.

Police confirmed a 55-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation and taken to Bury St Edmunds police station.

He has been released on police bail until 2 April.

Church spokesman John Howard said: "We are working closely with the parishes of Haverhill and Withersfield to support them at this time."
