An 89-year-old widow suffered a head injury in an "evil" attack by three masked men at her Suffolk home.

Connie Hallford was knocked to the floor of her bungalow after the men broke into her home in Arrowhead Road, Lakenheath, at 20:10 GMT on Monday.

Ms Hallford said one of the men demanded money in what police have described as a "really nasty" attack.

She was treated at the West Suffolk Hospital for a cut to her head.

Ms Hallford said: "They knocked the door in and smashed the windows that were in the top part of it... that's when I went to the hallway... and told them to clear off."

She added: "They kept asking me for money and two searched the house, while the other stayed with me. He was asking if I was alright, but I had blood pouring down my face."

Det Insp David Giles from Suffolk Police, said: "This is just really, really nasty.

"This lady's really vulnerable, an older person who's got a lot of support from social services and is needlessly attacked in her own home."

Ms Hallford described the attack as "evil".

Police said they wanted to speak to anyone who had seen a black car - possibly a Vauxhall Astra or similar - in the Back Lane area of the town.
