A bus with a passenger on board crashed into a shop while the driver was buying a newspaper.

The bus rolled into the Edelweiss florist in Stowmarket, Suffolk, at about 07:40 GMT. No-one was hurt.

Chris Speed, business manager for First Eastern Counties, said the driver had turned the engine off before he went to a shop.

"Unfortunately, the vehicle has moved forward, gone through the lights and ended up in the shop," he said.

Mr Speed said the bus would be tested to see if there was a mechanical fault.

The driver has been with the company for a "good few years", Mr Speed said, and had stopped at the junction of Bury Street and Station Road West to buy a newspaper and "wait his time".

"He was only a few metres away from the bus," Mr Speed said.

The bus knocked over a traffic light before hitting the shop.

Suffolk Police said officers were "looking into" the incident.
