Oakwood School inquiry: Four men summonsed over child cruelty

Four men have been summonsed to appear before magistrates over allegations of abuse at a school in Suffolk.

An investigation began in 2011 into alleged offences between 1975 and 1999 at Oakwood School in Stowmarket.

A 58-year-old man from Southampton, a 69-year-old from Gislingham, a 59-year-old from Northampton and a 65-year-old from Lancaster will appear before the Bury St Edmunds bench on 1 October.

They will face child cruelty and assault allegations, police said.

Officers conducting an investigation have spoken to more than 100 people.

Eric De Smith, 74, of Stowmarket, has been charged with sexual offences alleged to have taken place at the Oakwood boarding school.
