Ipswich Hospital has earned more than £4m in parking fees over the past three years, it has been revealed.

A freedom of information request to Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust revealed more than £1.3m was taken in 2010-11.

The returns for the following two years were similar, to bring in a total of £4,023,000.

The trust said all income from car parks was reinvested in services and maintaining the hospital's infrastructure.

The figures also show that more than £18,000 in penalties was paid by people using the car park in 2012-13.
