Newmarket woods death man had liver disease

A man whose body was found in woodland in January died from alcohol-related liver disease, an inquest has heard.

Asif Shaikh Qurashi, 38, was discovered on land off Bury Road in Newmarket on 24 January.

He was found to have more than four times the drink-drive limit of alcohol in his blood. Empty bottles of spirits were found near his body.

Mr Qurashi, of Icewell Hill, Newmarket, was a stableman who had been missing for four days.

Bury St Edmunds coroner Dr Peter Dean recorded a narrative verdict on Tuesday.

He said police were aware the woodland had been used by workers in the racing industry to drink alcohol and sleep rough.
