A gritting lorry has crashed into a ditch during a snow flurry on an icy road in Suffolk.

The vehicle left the B1115 at Little Waldingfield near Sudbury at about 01:00 GMT although no-one was hurt, Suffolk County Council confirmed.

Police said they had dealt with over 60 accidents since midnight in the icy conditions, mainly in west Suffolk.

The only weather-affected school in Suffolk was Old Newton Primary, which opened an hour later than normal.

The Met Office said the highest snowfall in the UK over the last two days, measured at its official recording sites, was at Wattisham, near Ipswich, which had 9cm (3.5ins).
