A suspicious blaze that destroyed three fuel tankers in Suffolk caused up to £500,000 of damage and will take two weeks to clear up, a company has said.

Fifty firefighters were called to Ukay Fuels Limited, on Lady Lane, in Hadleigh, at 19:00 GMT on Friday.

Tankers containing 35,750 litres of kerosene, gas, oil and diesel were destroyed.

Owner Anthony Iameo said the company, which has remained open, was awaiting a report from its insurers on the damage.

"We are hoping to get back to normal in two weeks," he said.

"The fire could have been more severe but firefighters were able to protect one of the other oil tanks which was near to the fire."

The company said each tanker cost between £120,000 and £150,000, while damage to fencing and concrete would cost about £50,000.

At the height of the blaze, Suffolk Police warned residents to stay indoors and the A1071 was closed for five hours.

Police said the fire was being treated as suspicious.
