Jim Jarvie appointed OBE in Queen's Birthday Honours

A Suffolk man has been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours for his work with the UK Border Agency.

Jim Jarvie, head of criminal and financial investigations, has been appointed OBE.

"I am deeply proud to have received this honour from her Majesty," said Mr Jarvie, who has lived in the county for 11 years.

Two people from Suffolk have been appointed MBE. Chief Constable Simon Ash receives the Queen's Police Medal.

Seven people from the county will receive the British Empire Medal, which has been reintroduced after being scrapped in 1993.

Christine Bird has been awarded the medal in honour of her services to the community in Brome and Eye.

She has been a member of the community council in Brome since 1973 and is chairman of the board of governors at Eye CEVAC Primary School.

"I was overwhelmed because I had no idea anything like that would happen to me in my life," said Mrs Bird.

"I love people and enjoy working with people. To be awarded a medal for doing something you enjoy is jolly nice."
