A Royal Navy bomb disposal team has been called to detonate a suspicious device found in the North Sea off the Suffolk coast.

Coastguards were contacted at about 9:25 BST on Monday after a skipper saw a "large metallic cylinder" in the nets of a fishing vessel.

The device was found about two-and-a-half miles east of Covehithe, near Southwold.

It has a 17in (43cm) diameter, Yarmouth Coastguard said.

A navigation warning has been issued advising vessels to stay away from the area.

Coastguards said the device had been left in the nets, which were tied to two buoys.
