Main roads around a motorway junction in Cheshire are to be shut in a series of overnight closures as part of a £8m widening scheme to reduce congestion.

Traffic lights are to be installed and extra lanes built on the A500 at its roundabout for the M6 at Barthomley.

The Highways Agency said the A500, the B5078 and both M6 junction 16 slip roads would be subject to overnight closures from Monday.

Work was expected to be finished a week before Christmas, the agency said.

A temporary speed limit of 50mph would be put in place on the A500 while work was carried out but there were no planned closures of the M6, it added.
