A woman has died and three other people have been injured in a crash on a slip road for Stafford services on the M6.

Their car crashed into a road sign whilst turning off the southbound carriageway at about 05:50 BST.

The woman who was in her 50s was confirmed dead at the scene, the ambulance service said.

A man and two other women were taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, where they are in a serious condition, it said.

All four people are thought to be from the north west of England, police said.

Staffordshire Police said liaison officers were now supporting the families involved and it was appealing for any witnesses to the crash to get in contact.
