Moving lorry theft: Eleven men in court

Eleven men have been charged in connection with attempts to steal from a moving lorry.

They were arrested at Keele services in Staffordshire on Tuesday.

Officers from Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) made the arrest after a van was seen travelling on the M6 northbound through Birmingham.

The men are charged with conspiracy to steal from a motor vehicle and are due to appear at Newcastle Justice Centre Court later.

It follows a joint investigation by CMPG, Staffordshire Police and a number of other agencies, including the European Traffic Police Network.

Police said this type of crime had been seen on the continent before, but was new to this country.
