Man charged with murder after street stabbing in Stone

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a stabbing in Staffordshire.

Connan McLeod, 22, died on Whitemill Lane in Stone in the early hours of Saturday. A post-mortem examination confirmed he died from a stab wound.

Daniel Allott, 26, from Bagots Oak in Stafford, appeared before magistrates in Cannock on Monday.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday.

A tribute on Staffordshire Police's Facebook page described Mr McLeod as "one of the town's great characters".

Another Facebook user posted: "Everyone is at a loss because of this."

Three people in total have been arrested in connection with the investigation. Two have been released on bail.
