Staffordshire senior manager warns NHS 'not a buffet'

17 March 2014 Last updated at 20:21 GMT

A senior NHS manager has warned that patients need to stop treating the health service as an "all you can eat buffet."

Andy Donald, who is responsible for commissioning health services across Stafford and Cannock, and is facing a £15m deficit, said patients needed to be persuaded not to consume more than they need.

His warning comes as hospitals throughout the West Midlands face being downgraded.

Nuneaton's George Eliot Hospital is actively looking for a partner organisation to help run it including both NHS organisations and private healthcare providers.

Midlands Today's Michele Paduano reports.
