A community centre has been raided by thieves who stole from its cafe while a jazz band was playing in the main area.

Carrot cake, Victoria sponge, fruitcake, cheese scones and flapjacks were taken from the kitchen area by the intruders at the Foxlowe Arts Centre in Leek, Staffordshire.

Manager Ian Wilson said: "The chef will have to work like a demon to replace the cakes before opening tomorrow.

"I've only been here for 15 weeks, it really takes the biscuit - literally."
