Sutherland Road in Longton shut after wall collapses

Strong winds have caused a two-storey wall to partially collapse in Stoke-on-Trent.

Sutherland Road in Longton, between Western Coyney Road and Uttoxeter Road, has been closed while council workers knock the remains of the wall down.

Members of the council's dangerous structures team will bring the wall down under controlled conditions, a spokesman said.

The road should be open again shortly after 17:00 GMT, he added.

The wall, which surrounds a former pottery factory, is privately owned and the council said it will charge the costs to the owner.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for both wind and rain in the West Midlands.
