A fire at a plastics recycling plant in Tamworth, Staffordshire, was started deliberately, police have said.

The blaze, which was seen up to 10 miles away, started at about 16:20 GMT on Thursday at Boomerang Plastics on the Lichfield Road Industrial Estate.

At its height, about 30 firefighters were involved from across Staffordshire and Warwickshire.

Police said an arson investigation had now opened and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The fire started in an open yard, fuelled by wooden pallets and plastics, before spreading to an adjoining unit.

It was also close to the railway line, causing train cancellations and delays in the area.
