Ex-head teacher Robert Haines charged with child sex offences

A former head teacher at a school in Stoke-on-Trent has been charged with 13 sex offences involving children.

Robert Haines, 44, is accused of four counts of sexual grooming, five counts of sexual activity and four counts of taking indecent images of a child.

Mr Haines was suspended from his job as the head teacher of Thistley Hough High School in Penkhull in March 2012.

He is due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle-under-Lyme on 15 August.

Mr Haines, of Brimstree Drive, Shifnal, was arrested last October, Staffordshire Police said.

The Stoke-on-Trent Safeguarding Children Board said that the school and the city council had "worked closely with the police and responded fully to its investigation".
