Motorcyclist dies in M6 crash in Staffordshire

A man has died and three people have been injured in a crash on the M6 in Staffordshire.

Crews from West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to the southbound carriageway between junctions 15 and 14 just before 09:00 BST.

Staffordshire Police said a 62-year-old man from Blackpool riding one of three motorcycles died on the way to hospital.

His pillion passenger, a woman aged 49, was seriously injured.

The force said she was described as being in a critical condition in hospital.

The ambulance service said two other men were taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire with neck and back injuries.

All three lanes of the motorway were closed but have since reopened.

Police said it was thought a lorry had a tyre blowout, which left debris on the motorway.

As a result, the traffic began to slow to avoid hitting the debris and the crash involving the three motorcycles and a silver Volkswagen Polo happened.
