Tributes have been paid to a 17-year-old student who died after being discovered unconscious at his college in Staffordshire.

Samuel Fallows from Oakmoor, Cheadle, was found at the JCB Academy in Rocester on Friday and later died in hospital.

An inquest is expected to open later in the week, while police said his death was not being treated as suspicious.

His family described him as a "bright, fun-loving and caring character".

"It is a shock that it has ended so tragically," they said.

The JCB Academy said its thoughts were with Sam's family.

Its principal Jim Wade said he was a "first-class, well-motivated and bright student," who started at the university technical college in September.

Mr Wade said: "He was confident, eloquent and had a great sense of humour and had a very promising future ahead of him.

"Sam was popular amongst his peers and the staff and everyone is devastated at his tragic death."
