Codsall residents in addresses scam warning

Fraudsters have used about 50 Staffordshire addresses as part of a national car insurance scam.

The offenders have used the residences in Codsall to apply for insurance under false and foreign names, police said.

Householders discovered the scam when they received letters from insurance firms, police or solicitors.

Sgt Matt Walker said insurers were putting in extra checks to combat the offence but warned people to be alert.

"This scam is a national problem but it appears that addresses in Codsall are the latest to be targeted," he said.

"Residents need not be overly concerned but should respond to any letters they receive by explaining that the people and vehicles listed are not registered at their address."
