Deal or No Deal winner Caroline Banana denies benefit fraud

A woman who won £95,000 on the TV show Deal or No Deal has pleaded not guilty to benefit fraud charges.

Caroline Banana, 40, who is accused of not declaring her winnings, appeared at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council alleges she was overpaid £6,758.01 in housing benefit, council tax and income support between 28 March 2011 and 13 May 2012.

Mrs Banana, of Bentilee in the city, is due to face trial on 25 April at the justice centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Mrs Banana has denied nine charges relating to housing benefit, council tax benefit and income support and a count relating to claiming free school meal allowances.
