Man and dog killed in Lichfield hit-and-run

Burton Road, Streethay, Lichfield The car was heading towards Lichfield city centre, police said.

A man and his dog have been killed in a hit-and-run crash.

Staffordshire Police said the man had been on the pavement in Burton Road, Streethay, Lichfield, earlier, when he was hit by a small dark-coloured car.

The car did not stop and carried on towards Lichfield city centre, the spokesman said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the dog also died. A 21-year-old Lichfield man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police have appealed for witnesses and roads in the area were closed for a time.
